Our story
International Baptist Church Essen is an English-speaking, multi-ethnic congregation in the heart of the Ruhr. We gather from many nations and backgrounds, drawn together by the gospel of Jesus Christ and a shared mission to make disciples.
Our church exists to bring the Good News to all nations and make reproducing disciples of Jesus Christ for the glory of God. That mission shapes everything — how we worship, how we care for one another, and how we reach our city.
We meet every Sunday at 10:00 at the ChorForum in the centre of Essen. Through the week we scatter into home groups across the city, gather for prayer, and teach through books of the Bible together.
IBC Essen is part of the Bund Evangelisch-Freikirchlicher Gemeinden (BEFG) in Germany and of the International Baptist Convention, a fellowship of English-speaking churches across Europe and beyond.
What we value
The Bible is God’s Word — our sole and final authority for faith and life. Everything we teach and do is built on it.
We belong to one another. We share meals, carry burdens and welcome the stranger as Christ welcomed us.
Every believer has a gift and therefore a ministry. We serve one another, our city and the nations.
Families from many nations, united by one faith in Essen — a glimpse of the people God is gathering.
We aim to make reproducing disciples of Jesus — not just attenders — as He commanded.
